Doula Services

africaSutay Berman is a labor and delivery RN who has worked at Johns Hopkins and Boulder Community Hospitals, and now serves as an independent doula in the Boulder, Colorado area, providing pregnancy, labor, and postpartum support.

Sutay's work in childbirth began in rural West Africa where she supported laboring mothers and village midwives; it continued as a Labor & Delivery RN at Johns Hopkins and Boulder Community Hospitals. She is a certified integrated and prenatal yoga instructor; childbirth and reproductive health educator; infant massage; lactation counselor. Sutay is comfortable working with various approaches to birth and labor preparation, including Hypnobirthing, Hypnobabies, Lamaze, Bradley, homebirth, and Birthing from Within.

As your doula, Sutay will support whatever birth plan you choose, in whatever setting you feel safest. She is equally comfortable at homebirths as she is in the hospital (especially Boulder Community Hospital Foothills, where she has worked since 2006).

In addition to providing hands-on bedside support during labor, Sutay is there to help your partner help you during the birth experience; she will help explain medical terminology and hospital procedures so that you as a couple can make the most informed decisions about your birth.

FROM PAST CLIENTS:

"My daughter's birth turned out to be extremely difficult, and it's not an exaggeration to say that I don't know how we would have gotten through it without Sutay. Her support before, during, and after the birth were vital. During our stay in the NICU afterwards, the nurses commented on how wonderful Sutay had been during my labor and what a great advocate she was." —Amy S.

"As our doula, Sutay did a wonderful job of supporting both my husband and me during my labor and delivery. Her presence was very calming and grounding, and her experience and knowledge in the field of pregnancy and childbirth was very comforting to me. I think every pregnant mama should seriously consider finding a doula to support them during their pregnancy, and especially during their labor and delivery. It's so important to have another support person, in addition to one's partner." —Amy D.
